Effective Hardness Reduction for Water Treatment Systems

Hard water contains hardness-causing minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium. Excessive hardness can contribute to scale formation in pipes, heat exchangers, boilers, process equipment and other water systems.

A water softener generally uses a cation-exchange resin in sodium form. During the service cycle, calcium and magnesium ions are exchanged with sodium ions.

After the resin capacity is exhausted, the resin is regenerated using a suitable brine solution and the system is returned to service.
